چکیده

The optical light curve of the Be/neutron star binary AX J0049.4−7323 has been investigated using data from the MACHO and OGLE-II projects. This X-ray source, whose neutron star has a very slow rotation rate (P pulse = 755.5 sec), shows optical outbursts every ∼394 days. The regularity of these outbursts suggests that their recurrence time is the orbital period of the system. During the outbursts the system brightens and becomes slightly redder. A possible interpretation is that a portion of the equatorial disk is excited as the neutron star passes through it during periastron passage. In the intervals between outbursts the light curve shows ∼11-day quasi-periodic varability which may be associated with the rotation of the Be star's extended disk.

Giant Outbursts in Be/x-ray Binaries

Be/X-ray binary systems exhibit both periodic (Type I) X-ray outbursts and giant (Type II) outbursts, whose origin has remained elusive. We suggest that Type II X-ray outbursts occur when a highly misaligned decretion disk around the Be star becomes eccentric, allowing the compact object companion to capture a large amount of material at periastron. Using 3D smoothed particle hydrodynamics simu...

The behavior of subluminous X - ray transients near the Galactic center as observed using the X - ray telescope aboard Swift

In this paper we report on the spectral analysis of seven X-ray transients, which were found to be active during a monitoring campaign of the Galactic center carried out in 2006 and 2007 using the X-ray telescope aboard the Swift satellite. This campaign detected new outbursts of five known X-ray transients and discovered two new systems. Their 2-10 keV peak luminosities range from ∼ 10 to 6 × ...

Forty Years of X-Ray Binaries

In 2012 it was forty years ago that the discovery of the first X-ray binary Centaurus X-3 became known. That same year it was discovered that apart from the High-Mass X-ray Binaries (HMXBs) there are also Low-Mass X-ray Binaries (LMXBs), and that Cygnus X-1 is most probably a black hole. By 1975 also the new class of Be/X-ray binaries was discovered. After this it took 28 years before ESAs INTE...

We compute and present the distribution in mass of single and binary neutron stars, strange stars, and black holes. The calculations were performed using a stellar population synthesis code. We follow all phases of single and binary evolution, starting from a ZAMS binary and ending in the creation of one compact object (neutron star, black hole, strange star) and a white dwarf, or two compact o...

Bursts , eclipses , dips and a refined position for the luminous low - mass X - ray binary in the globular cluster Terzan 6

GRS 1747-312 is a bright transient X-ray source in the globular cluster Terzan 6 with quasi-periodic outbursts approximately every 4.5 months. We carried out 2–60 keV target-of-opportunity observations during eight outbursts with the Proportional Counter Array on the RXTE satellite, for a total exposure time of 301 ks, and detect the first unambiguous thermonuclear bursts from this source. This...
